SUMMER GARDEN PARTY
Sherman Library’s premier annual event takes place throughout the gardens. “UBUHLE WOMEN: BEADWORK AND THE ART OF INDEPENDENCE”
A community of women living together in rural South Africa created the pieces in the exhibit, which showcase a new form of beadwork called “ndwangos.” Made with brightly colored Czech glass beads on black fabric stretched like a canvas, the works are both abstract and figurative. GABRIEL “FLUFFY” IGLESIAS
The stand-up comedian and actor broke out when he became one of the final eight comics on “Last Comic Standing” in 2006. Since then, he’s hosted his own stand-up series, “Stand Up Revolution,” on Comedy Central, played Gabe Iglesias in “Mr. Iglesias” on Netflix, and became the first comedian to sell out Dodger Stadium. THE VIC SKIMBOARDING WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS
Dozens of pros and nearly 100 amateurs compete in the yearly event, the most prestigious skimboarding competition on the West Coast. It always hosts some of the best skimboarders in the world, including plenty of Laguna Beach natives who grew up skimming on local beaches.
