MONTY ALEXANDER TRIO
Grammy-nominated jazz pianist Monty Alexander came to the U.S. from Jamaica almost 60 years ago. Since then, he has become a favorite among jazz aficionados for his vibrant, soulful performances. He has played 23 times at the Montreux Jazz Festival and worked with greats such as Dizzy Gillespie, Sonny Rollins, and Frank Sinatra. The largest air show in the U.S. runs over three days and features flight demonstrations from teams from across the globe. “BOHEMIAN OF THE ARROYO SECO: IDAH MEACHAM STROBRIDGE”
The exhibit looks at the influence of Idah Meacham Strobridge, who moved to the Arroyo Seco neighborhood of Los Angeles in 1891 and operated a book bindery and art gallery in the early 1900s. The gallery was a popular meeting place for writers and artists of the time, and this show features the work of the Arts and Crafts community, particularly plein-air paintings and works with Southwestern themes. A CONVERSATION WITH TARA WESTOVER
Westover’s memoir, “Educated,” was a critical and commercial hit in 2018. In the book, she details her childhood growing up in a home with a father who opposed public education and never allowed her to attend school. Despite that, she eventually graduated magna cum laude from Brigham Young University and earned a Ph.D. in history from Trinity College at Cambridge University.
